British Designers Collective
Earlier this year the British Designers Collective Popped in Bicester Village and after three weeks of opening it was well exceeding expectations. Even while still in a retail recession massive sales were being made at the shop.
Designers and brands such as PPQ, Erdem, Todd Lynn, House of Holland, Anonymous and Louise Gray feature with reductions of up to 50%, an offer the British public can't seem to resist.
The limited time frame that already creates so much hype is just added to with the excitement of the unique offerings from Britain's yound upcoming designers, suggesting after its initial six week Pop Up Britsh designers Collective will return with avengence!
Gap's Piperlime gets a pop-up shop
Gap's online shoe, handbag and accessory store Piperlime, pops up at 93 Mercer Street for 25 days on September the 9th. It will also house Marc by Marc Jacobs and Frye styles for the fall. A great way for gap to penetrate the mainstream market popping up in such a key, trendy, artistic area.
When brands set up Pop Up shops they really need to be in control of stocking, as they're open for such a short period of time they will only have this short period to understand their market day to day. Under stocking could be a problem if they receive more attention than expected.
A styling loft is also going to feature in the Soho store, where customers will be able showcase their own styles and may also be in with of chance of having their outfit featured in the store. As Piperlime sponsors Project Runway, the cast will be appearing on September 10th.

During New York Fashion week, fashion house Imitation of Christ in collaboration with Creative time, launched a movable installation.
This Pop Up interested me in particular because it was simply a clear plexiglass box, one salesman and as neon sign showing the store.
The box only had one single item on sale each day which made it even more desirable and exclusive, these items ranging from a $7000 couture dress to an unpredictable temptation for $50.
The store would change locations throughout the day and red dots on a map would provide the information of where at 1pm everyday. The store would also close as soon as the product had sold out.

Love it or Hate it
Last Christmas Marmite opened a Pop Up on regent Street for 10 weeks. The visually exciting shop sold exclusive Marmite themed products such as sandwich holders and oven gloves with a 50's style tearoom above for customers to enjoy a cup of Tea and some Marmite on toast.
After the success of this Pop Up Marmite are now plotting further launches for 2011. Their managing director, Matt Burgess is very aware the future ones must be slightly different from before in a new unusual location.

Collaboration of two of London's best Fashion shops can only bring bigger successes. The Shop at Bluebird on the King's road plus a stylish B Store Pop Up shop creates a new exciting experience for London's shoppers.
This one has particular focus on style though as it has been created in collaboration with London-based, multi-disciplinary architectural and interiors design bureau Post-Office. Although the clothes and shoes need little help off the shelves the clever styling and lighting aid them.

Gucci Icon-Temporary Sneaker Store Covent Garden
A glossy white store housed 16 styles for the boys and 2 for the girls in addition to each new exclusive Gucci Ronson Sneaker introduced at each international destination. Customers if they wish can have their initials embossed on to a customized leather tag on the laces.
After touching down in New York and Miami, the Gucci store popped up in Londons Covent Garden. Opening for only as long as it took to sell all of the limited edition trainers in true Pop Up style before popping over to Tokyo a monoth or so later.

Comme des Garcons
Japanese Fashion label Comme des Garcons was the first to take the guerilla Pop Up concept international in 2004, launching its first in Berlin.
They have opened and closed shops in more than 20 locations such as Stockholm, Athens, Reykjavik and many more, all a successes with Cracow and Warsaw heading the top of the pile.

Pretty Green launch Pop Up in Carnaby Street
57 Carnaby Street is the perfect location for Liam Gallagher's new label 'Pretty Green.' He drew massive inspiration from the art, music and culture scene of the 60's when designing the collection.
In addition to the Green Label and Black label SS10 Collections there is also a selection of exclusive Pretty Green pieces available in store.
Pretty Green reflects Liam's own style and wants; classic tailoring, quality fabrics and amazing attention to detail. Online demand has been high, suggesting the Pop Up method will be a sell out.

Jaeger Pop Up Shop Carnaby Street
Jaeger opens boutique by Jaeger Pop Up in London August 7th. The store adopts a Rock and Roll vibe, featuring 60's inspired mini skirts, micro tuxes, kints, zipped coats, dresses and shorts.

London Fashion Bus
Pop Up retail to a T - The London Fashion Bus. Was launched at the end of May 2003, the bus contained over 1,400 pieces of work from 40 different designers and continually toured, 'popping Up' in different areas all the time. A really good way of bringing designer pieces to places who may have never been to london or heard of the designers. It was also an effective way of making names for younger designers.
Target - The official King of Pop Up Retail
Target launched their first Pop Up store in 2002, a floating outlet on Hudson River for Christmas. The following year to celebrate fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi's new women's clothing line they opened a temporary 1500 square feet store in the Rockefeller centre for just over a month. It has since created several other Pop Up ideas to continue renevating the brand.

Pop Up shops are there to deliver a consistent, clear, distinct message about the brand. They are somewhat more about the advertising of the brand rather than the actual selling itself. They provide the consumer with a hands on experience enticing them to go to a real store. In these cases the shop would be developed by marketing and advertising departments to generate brand recognition.
Pop Up retail is so successful because it fits right in with the Entertainment, Experience and Surprise Economy. Exclusivity is guaranteed because of the limited lifespan giving more than just shopping to the consumer. More and more consumers are going online to make purchases creating the need for brands to be more innovative to draw people in.
Pop Up shops are an almost permanent fixture in the US, as companies feel much more confident giving out short term leases to brands. In New York some spaces have been created especially for these purposes, white painted warehouses with short term leases allow brands to develop a real in store experience in the empty space without having to stick with it permanently.
An experience in a Pop Up shop can re-engage consumers that may have become bored with a brand. They are a useful means for brands to test different products in different markets, because of their short term nature direct feedback is obtained.
Some are also used simply to sell off certain stock, obviously there will still be a certain amount of exclusivity but sometimes the sole purpose is to sell.
For example in 2006, Nike for just four days opened a Pop Up in Soho to sell 250 pairs of the 'Zoom LeBron IV NYC' basketball shoes. Named after the popular NBA All Star the special ed shoes were priced at $250 each.
